Weekly Reminders:

9/27: Progress Reports

9/27: September Book Order due**

10/2: Late Start

**If you are interested in ordering books through the Scholastic Book Club, please follow the directions in the email sent previously. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Notes:

-Today was our Code Red Evacuation Drill. The students did an excellent job following the expectations and procedures for this drill. Way to go 4P!

-IXL: Please do not allow your child to use a calculator unless I have specified or the problem specifies that it is okay to use one. Unit 2 of our math program focuses on multiplication. Students should use a multiplication chart to solve any multiplication facts they do not have memorized. It is expected that the students have their multiplication facts memorized. We do some practice at school each day, but any extra practice at home is helpful too. This week’s additional skill is C.1.

-Reading Logs: Please ensure that your child is filling out their own reading log each week. In order to get an accurate number of pages read, your child can write their start page on the log when they begin reading and then the page they finished on. Example: pages 78-96

-Words Their Way: Your child’s first Words Their Way test is on Friday. Students will be expected to write each word correctly and place it under the correct heading.

-Progress Reports are viewable on Skyward on Friday. A paper copy will not be sent home. Please contact the school office if you need help accessing your child’s Skyward account.

-Discussion Post grades are now available when you child logs in their account on our class website. If the discussion was graded solely for participation points it will specify that at the top of the page. Otherwise, a rubric was used to allocate the points for the grade. I also provide comments about your child’s post. Please let me know if you have any questions about this process.

Notes:

Folders: Any written homework the students have, including the weekly Reading Log and the Words Their Way Log, will always be sent home in the red Communication Folder. This folder is for all papers and information that needs to go back and forth to school. All remaining papers, including graded work, will go home each week in the Thursday Folder. The only exception to this is when a something for the Thursday Folder cannot be saved until Thursday and must go home right away in the Communication Folder.

Graded Work: Graded and completed work will be sent home in Thursday folders. Any work this is taken for a grade will always have a score and point total at the top, even if it was just graded for participation. Any work that has only a smiley face, star, checkmark, etc. was checked by me but not taken for a grade.

Class Dojo: Don’t forget to sign-up to view your child’s daily behavior records with Class Dojo! Last week the whole class lost several points for being too loud, and it took away a point for each student when this happened. I realized that this is not fair to the students who may be following the class rules. I created a separate Dojo avatar for the whole class that will lose points instead. Your child will no longer lose any points for negative whole class behaviors.

Skyward: You can begin to view your child’s grades on Skyward tomorrow (Tuesday). If you do not have your child’s Skyward account information, please contact the school office.

Extra IXL: Each week I will suggest an additional skill or skills that students can work on in IXL if they choose. This skill(s) is completely optional and a great idea for students that complete the required skill quickly. This week’s additional skill is Number Sense A.9.
