Volunteers: If you are interested in volunteering in our classroom, I would love to have volunteers assist with discussion groups during our daily reading intervention time beginning next week. Please email me if you would like to schedule a day to volunteer. Our daily intervention time takes place from 1:30-2:00.

G.A.T.O.R.S. (Giving Aide to Offer Relief Soon): Thank you for all the generous donations to support the families in Washington, IL! Donations are accepted through tomorrow. It is so wonderful to see the students excited to help others!

Notes:

Volunteers: If you are interested in volunteering in our classroom, I would love to have volunteers assist with discussion groups during our daily reading intervention time. If this time does not work for you but you would still like to volunteer in our classroom, please let me know and we can schedule another time for you to assist with other activities.

Report Cards: Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding your child’s report card.

G.A.T.O.R.S. (Giving Aide to Offer Relief Soon): An email was sent out via Skyward about Grove’s initiative to help those affected by the Washington tornado. Students can bring in item and monetary donations to help those in needed and may participate in the day’s spirit day as a thank you for their donation. The spirit day schedule is as follows:

Wednesday, Nov. 20- Grove spirit wear day

Thursday, Nov. 21- sit wherever you want in the lunch room

Friday, Nov. 22- orange and black day for Washington school colors

Monday, Nov. 25- hat day

Tuesday, Nov. 26- crazy/mismatched sock day

Social Studies: This week we are starting our study of the five regions in the United States, beginning with the Northeast region. Our study of the regions will continue throughout the remainder of the school year. Students will be expected to be able to label the states in each region and list the capital of each state in the region. Students will be tested on this once during each region’s unit of study. Students will then be tested at the end of the year on all states and capitals.

Weekly Learning Targets:

Reading

-I can identify and describe the plot of a story, including the conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.

Writing

-I can use quotation marks, commas, and ending marks in a sentence containing a direct quotation.

-I can use correct punctuation in a sentence containing a direct quotation.

-I can write a story that uses direct quotations correctly.

Word Work

-I can sort given words by word patterns and spell the words correctly.

-I can explain the meaning of the word patterns.

-I can sort and spell words that follow the same rules as the words in my sort.

Math

-I can multiply a one-digit number by a multi-digit number using the traditional algorithm.

-I can multiply a one-digit number by a multi-digit number using the partial products method.

-I can estimate the product of two factors and decide if the product will be in the tens, hundreds, thousands, or more.

Social Studies

-I can identify the five regions in the United States.

-I can identify the states and capitals in the Northeast region.

Science

-I can identify and describe the parts of a hurricane.

-I can describe how a hurricane forms.

Notes:

Words Their Way: Students will be assessed on several words NOT on their list but follow the same rule/pattern as the words on their list. Students will have to spell the words under the correct headings based on what they learned over the past two weeks.

Missing Work: The first trimester ends this Friday. Any missing work must be turned in by this day in order to be counted for credit. Please check Skyward to view if you child has any missing work. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about this. Remember, 10% of the points are deducted for each day an assignment is late.

Writing

-I can edit my writing and the writing of a peer so that it makes sense by editing the capitalization, word usage, punctuation, and spelling.

-I can publish my writing piece.

-I can explain the meaning of the word patterns.

-I can choose a Word Work activity to complete independently and/or with my partner.

Math

-Unit 2 Post-Test and Unit 3 Pre-Test

-I can multiply a whole number of up to 4-digits by a 1-digit number.

Social Studies

-I can identify and describe waterforms.

Science

-I can identify types of weather instruments and describe their use.

-I can read a weather map.
